Two Presentations by LLS DLs from North Yorkshire, lunch with Johnny Ball and Guerilla Geography

Rehearsing on the train

On Friday 1st February  four Lady Lumley’s Digital Leaders from North Yorkshire, Will, Beth, Maddie and Jo, got up at 5.00am and set off from the North York Moors to meet their teacher @gr8ict at York Station to trek down to #BETT2013 … We were going to the bright lights in London to tell people about our aim to “inspire better learning using ICT by sharing ideas and building confidence with our teachers”.  All four had been chosen for the hard work they have put in to their Digital Leaders’ work at Lady Lumley’s School in the last 18 and 6 months respectively.  North Yorkshire LA funded the students’ travel as part of our North Yorkshire ICT in Education Programme.  Will had already done a similar trip to Microsoft Headquarters last year.    One of our Microsoft fellow collaborator’s – Matthew – couldn’t be with us this time but had supplied us with a first-class video.

We made our way safely through the London Tube and DLR – some of use for the first time – and arrived at the Stone Stand. Will shows how to introduce oneself with a business card…  The other’s scoot off to start the day’s long accumulation of Freebies…

Our first talk was part of a series on “World Class Professional Development” on the large Stone Computer’s Stand.  We hoped for a good audience through our links with the Digital Leader’s Network – more about that later.

Here is the Prezi. and here is the Video (16Mb)

… and here are some photos of the talk itself – not something I would have been comfortable doing at their ages, and another huge positive for the virtues of developing as a Digital Leader…

Hi, I was at Bett on Friday and really enjoyed listening to your presentations. Your enthusiasm for your role as digital leaders was really obvious and you certainly seem to have been very busy in school! I’m a primary teacher who works with digital leaders in my school in Belfast – I’ve made a note of some of your ideas to see if they could be used in our school. Keep up the great work.

  2. Mr Mayoh

    Congratulations on such professional presentations!

I was at BETT at a different time to you, otherwise I’d have been there to see you in a heartbeat. Good luck with the Digital Leader role for the rest of the year. Keep updating us on the DLN about your progress.

    Mr. Mayoh.
