Cluster schools enrichment morning

Roydon digital leaders have led a ‘Webmasters’ morning for local schools. My plan was to introduce the children to code using Code Academy, then to practise skills through Mozilla Thimble, led by Roydon DLs. We would then move on to Hackasaurus to have more fun with our new found skills. My digital leaders were keen to have a brain break when they would teach everyone to make a quick game using Sketchnation.  Here is what my digital leaders wrote about it!

This morning people from different schools have been learning how to code. They used a bit of Code Academy and Mozilla Thimble. On Code Academy you can learn how write different codes and take part in different course about different kinds of coding. On Mozilla Thimble you can make you own webpages from a made up project or you can start from scratch. You can also add videos and text. We shared our thimble pages in a google presentation so that we could look at one another’s.

After play, Jodie and Lauren gave a demo of Sketchnation so that everyone could make a quick ipad game. They had 15 minutes to do this before they all became web hackers using Mozilla x-ray goggles.

They all had a lot of fun adding themselves to pages like CBBC and becoming a famous person! You can read a post on the Roydon Digital Leader blog, which they did during the morning.

Well done to the Dizzy Digital Leaders for more path forging for children – I LOVE watching your learning and teaching. I had a play with Hackasuarus this week too and it was really fun. I would like to learn more about Code Academy now though.
    Keep up the brilliant learning!
